Maintaining material price

Hi all,

Can anyone explain to me a practical example where a material price is maintained as V, Moving Average Price.

For example if a material produced inhouse is made of metal and the metal price varies each month. So the price of the inhouse material also changes each month. In this scenario what is the price control to be maintained.
