well then try to change one attribute that will be visible to the user (e.g. visibility). If that works, then you can do anything with the view. As you would work with the existing elements, it could be ok for you to create a new TC or a couple and loop through all the children of the parent, insert them into the new one with the correct layout. Then do not forget deleting the elders.
