If the User is an Employee Business Partner, then yes this work.
Check out Table BUT050 where the relationships are maintained.
Depending on the configuration of the Relationship you're using, you may need to Check Partner 1 link to Partner 2 and vice versa. (Let me know if you're not following me on this point.)
