Hi Arinze,
Poorna's link is a great one. Please read it carefully as Jon Reed has been writing on this topic for many years. You may also find useful information at SAP Career Blog Links.
In a nutshell, getting a start directly in SAP is very difficult for those who don't get recruited directly out of college. If you miss that critical window, then the most likely path is through using your skills to get a job either in a business role or an IT role at a company that runs sap and then gradually moving into the SAP support role.
Going from zero to SAP consultant is extremely difficult but, oddly, the path upon which most people fixate. To be a consultant, you MUST have experience (or else why would a customer hire you?). Yes, there are exceptions because very large consulting firms *recruit* new hires before they graduate college/MBA, but they rarely take folks who have already graduated.
Also, Basis and programmers tend to have a slightly easier time breaking in after graduation with no or limited experience, but it is still not the primary route. Check the stories from the Blogs for folks interested in Certification or just in learning SAP functionality section, plus the following two blogs
Hope this helps!
Best regards,
